We know that treating people with eating disorders quickly gives the best possible chance of recovery.
Eating disorders can be just as devastating for adults as for children, but there are currently no waiting times targets for adults needing specialist treatment, leaving many very ill people waiting too long for the treatment they desperately need.
We’re calling on the Government to extend the current waiting times targets that exist for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in England, to ensure that people of all ages are able to access eating disorder treatment as soon as they need it. We know that people delay for years before seeking treatment. If their 19th birthday passes during that time, they miss the chance to be treated quickly. This is wrong.
Sign our petition today asking the Secretary of State for Health to help stop the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders by:
- Introducing access and waiting times targets for adults needing treatment for eating disorders.
- Ensuring that people of all ages do not face unnecessary barriers to accessing eating disorder treatment.
- Pledging the funding to enable all Clinical Commissioning Groups to be able to deliver fully on these promises.
For campaigners in Scotland and Wales, please note that there are currently petitions calling for waiting times targets in Scotland and Wales.
